Greg Newton organised a great overnight event for the NSW Chapter over the weekend of 4 - 5 July 2020. A good turnout of 12 cars saw them venture out from Sydney to Mossvale for a great overnight stay and dinner. The Return trip to Sydney the next day via another great drive. ERCA members have again been invited to compete in the 2021 Classic Outback Trial. The organisers have put together another fantastic regularity competition for our club and entries are now open. Basic details are:

With a huge range of rare and historic race cars on show, you can rub shoulders with some of the legends of Australian and international motorsport. The 40th Anniversary Repco Retrial and Relay of the original 1979 REPCO RELIABILITY TRIAL set off from Melbourne on Monday the 5th of August. The route will then take the cars on a 14,500 km trip around Australia, returning to Melbourne 28 days later. ERCA Members Greg Newton  (1980 Holden Commodore) and Bruce Washington (1929 Chrysler) are participating in this event. To follow their progress click on the links below.

The iconic Classic Outback Trial is on again in 2020! There will be a change in location to the wonderful roads of Outback and Central NSW. The course is still to be finalised, but it will start in Parkes, New South Wales, on Friday 7 August 2020 and finish 7 days later at Bathurst. There will be a regularity class for ERCA participants. For anyone who competed in the 2018 COT in central Australia - you will know what a great event it is. The 21st Alpine Classic, run by the Classic Rally Club of NSW, is on again this year on the 19th and 20th of October 2019. The Rally will start from Goulburn, around 2 hours south of Sydney. ERCA members have been invited to participate and already several members have signed up for the 2019. The event has 4 different categories:

• Social

• Tour 

• Apprentice 

• Masters.

The Great Tarmac Rally is on again in 2019 over theweekend of the 12 & 13 October, 2019 around Marysville in Victoria.  The event debuted in 2012 and was a huge success, with many competitors describing its 240 competitive kilometres as some of the most challenging they have ever seen. Starting in Marysville, the Great Tarmac Rally travels through Camberville and Cumberland Junction in a stage many consider the highlight of any Rally in Victoria, the Reefton Spur. The organisers have indicated they are happy to run a Regularity Class for interested ERCA members.

With Greg Newton as the driver, his wife Liz, and their daughters Katie and Nickie will be taking it in turns to navigate their very well prepared 1980 Holden Commodore on the Repco Reliability Retrial which commenced in Melbourne on Monday 5th August, 2019. The route basically follows the 1979 event and does a full loop of Australia in just 26 days, and around 14,500 kms of driving. On Sunday the 2nd of June approximately 120 vintage and classic cars left Beijing for one of the most epic motoring adventures in the world of Endurance Rallying. The 36 day Peking to Paris heads across China, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Belgium and finally into Paris, France. There are plenty of Aussie and ERCA Club members competing. March 28 - 30, 2019. The Black Stump Tour is a gravel and tarmac event with various levels of competition - Ideal for Endurance rally style cars. It's not too late to join in and is a great fun weekend of competition.

The club has received a proposal to introduce a new class of members.  The committee have accepted the proposal, however requires a General Meeting of the club to pass this resolution. We will be holding a General Meeting on Monday 18 March to allow members to vote on this resolution.

The Phillip Island Classic is one of Australia’s best Historic Motor Racing Festivals. This year the event will be celebrating 50 years of Formula 5000 with a field of more than 30 thundering F5000 monsters from Australia and New Zealand. ERCA has been invited to enter a Club Display and we have a limited number of passes available for members.

The COT organisers have agreed to allow a few extra ERCA cars into the regularity event event which means we can push the numbers up to 32 if we have the interest - so that means there are a few more places available.

Historic Sandown is presented by the Victorian Historic Racing Register, assisted by the MG Car Club of Victoria. More than 40 events over two days will be run, with four hundred racing sports and touring cars including ‘big banger’ sports cars and F5000’s. If we can get enough cars together we are planning a club display to showcase our Endurance Rally Cars and our special brand of historic motorsport.

Club Members Phil and Lindy Blunden have graciously offered to host a BBQ lunch for ERCA Club members at their winery located on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Phil and Lindy have offered to supply salads and the club will organise some meat, so it should be a great day. It will also give us a chance to sample some of their wines which we are reliably informed are great! Just a  few weeks away from our first ever Annual Dinner to be held in Sydney on the 18th of February 2017. The dinner will be at Pier One, a great venue right on Sydney's famous harbour in the shadows of the Harbour Bridge. It promises to be a great opportunity for all Australian and New Zealand endurance rally enthusiasts to catch up, renew friendships, swap stories and celebrate the joy of endurance rallying. Our first official ERCA event on Friday the 28th of October was a great success. Over 20 rally enthusiast gathered at Bells Hotel in South Melbourne for a few drinks, dinner and a bit of fun with Quizmaster - Rhys Timms. The room was decorated with the help of Pete Washington who printed plenty of banners and pictures of past events and historical rally pictures. We were also treated to some  rally videos.  Thanks to everyone who came along to make  the night a success. Next event is our Annual Dinner in February. Don't miss it!

Pedro the Peugeot is Mary and Blair Healy's newly completed Peugeot 404 which is being prepared for the ERA Inca Rally in South America that starts in November 2016. Pedro was built in Sydney with the help of Matt Bryson.

ERCA has recently been accepted by Vic Roads as an Approved Vehicle Club which allows the club to approve Club Permits. And Pedro is the first car belonging to and ERCA Club Member who has been approved for a Victorian Club Permit.

We are very pleased to announce that Gerry Crown, a veteran of the Australian rally scene, winner of two Peking to Paris Rallies, plus a host of other rally achievements, has graciously agreed to become the Patron of the Endurance Rally Club of Australia. Gerry, along with navigator Matt Bryson has only recently completed his 6th Peking to Paris where they finished a very creditable 6th place in the Classics. We are looking forward to catching up with Gerry soon, hopefully at our ERCA dinner that will be coming up in the near future.

After a few years of talking we've finally got ourselves organised and  formed the Endurance Rally Club of Australia, or ERCA. The club is designed to cater for Aussies who have participated in one or more endurance rally events that are run by organisations like the Endurance Rally Association in the UK. Some of the events our members have competed in include:

• The Road to Mandalay

• The Classic Safari

• Trans America

Well the 2016 Peking to Paris is over and what an epic event it was. Congratulations to veryone who took part, particularly the Aussie contingent. It was great to see so mant Australian teams and cars doing well, with Mark Pickering and Dave Boddy leading home the Classics and taking outright honours in their Datsun 240Z.
